हम कौन हैंWho we are

A Nova Scotia nonprofit with roots in Haryana

Haryana Sewa Sangh is a registered nonprofit community organization based in Halifax. We bring together people with roots in Haryana, and everyone who shares our values, to celebrate our culture, support one another and give back to the province we now call home.

Our name says who we are. Sewa means selfless service. Sangh means a community that stands together. From food drives to cultural celebrations, everything we do starts there.

The land we come from

देसां में देस हरियाणा,
जित दूध दही का खाणा

Desaan mein des Haryana, jit doodh dahi ka khaana

"Among all lands, Haryana is the finest: a land where milk and yogurt are everyday food." A Haryanvi saying, still spoken with pride.

Haryana wraps around Delhi on three sides, and its story goes back thousands of years. Its name is often traced to Hari and ayana, the abode of God, or to harit aranya, the green forest. On 1 November 1966 it became its own state, which is why Haryanvi families everywhere celebrate Haryana Day on November 1.
